The acclaimed Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård, famous from ”Succession”, ”Big Little Lies” and ”True Blood” has joined a growing number of noted personalities that protest against closing the nightclub Trädgården in Stockholm, Sweden.
The nightclub, established in 2003, face the prospect of losing its building permit due to disgruntled neighbors, claiming that the volume of the music being played at the club is too loud, thereby prohibiting them from engaging in dialogue on their balconies, located approximately 200 meters from the club.
Alexander Skarsgård is one of many famous protesters, putting him alongside celebrities such as the actress and director Tuva Novotny, the Viagra Boys-singer Sebastian Murphy and Nooshi Dadgostar, the leader of the Swedish Left Party.
It was the Swedish local council body Länsstyrelsen that decided to tear up the permit, a temporary authorization which had been in place for fifteen years and that the owners of the club were seeking to permanent, citing a building act from the 1970s stipulating that the area below the bridge are to be restricted solely to commercial port activities.
Nevertheless, had not the discontented neighbours, numbering two in total, submitted their complaints to Länsstyrelsen, in which they after a prolonged campaign against the establishment found a suitable loophole to put the nightclub to rest, the local council would have granted Trädgården its permanent permit.
Since the news broke that the future of nightclub is at risk, a multitude of Swedes have signed a petition to overturn the decision, which some of them claim would cause irreparable harm to the night life of Stockholm.
